Video: Goals Overview for Learners

EdReflect offers tools for learners to create goals and track their own improvement targets. Goals can be attached to specific indicators, allowing learners to develop strategies for improvement.

This video tutorial provides an overview of the goals interface, and walks through the process of setting and editing goals.

When you want to create, view or modify goals, you begin at the home page.

Your Goal Summaries display on the bottom of the home page.

You may need to scroll down to see them.

A Goal Summary is like a snapshot of a goal presented as a sticky note.

You can’t add, edit or delete goals directly from the home page, but you can click a summary to open and edit an existing goal

or you can click the blank note go to the Goal Planning screen, where you can create new goals and manage all of your existing goals.

You can perform a number of actions on the Goal Planning Page, such as recording your areas of strength and growth, managing current goals, and accessing the goal archive.

01:00 To set a new goal, click Add another goal to the right.

A sticky note displays.

Click the note to add your Goal Summary.

Your goal summary can be a total of 100 characters, including spaces.

A counter on the bottom right tells you how many characters remain as you type.

Try to be clear and succinct – you can add details in another screen.

When you are finished, press Enter or just click off the note to enter the text.

01:30 To add details, click the View Details link.

The Goal Details page provides district-selected SMART goal questions you can answer to add more information about your goal.

You can also align your goal to indicators by opening the indicators table.

And, you can use the Goal Progress Area at the bottom to support and help you achieve your goals.

When you click Add Answer, a text box displays.

Enter your response in the box and then click Save to complete the entry.

Answered questions display a check mark.

02:16 To align your goal to indicators, click the Indicators link.

Then choose indicators from the table.

Remember to click Save when you’re finished.

Scroll to view and choose more indicators, if needed.

Your indicators display here.

02:37 You can use the Goal Progress area to enter reflections or action statements that provide narrative about your goal or that documents current or upcoming professional learning activities.

You can also use the Goal Progress area to add links to websites, Google docs or resources you use to support your goal.

03:50 Now, let’s look at editing our goals.

When you hover on a goal, a View Details link appears - click the link to return to the Goal Details screen.

To change a response to a question, hover on the question field.

04:06 When the Edit link appears, click it and edit your response in the text box.

Save your changes when you are finished.

To add or remove indicators, click the indicators field and make changes in the indicators table.

04:11 You can also hover on an indicator on the sticky note and click the x that appears to remove an indicator.

04:24 To edit or delete a Goal Progress post, scroll down and click either the edit or delete post link underneath it.
